Oil & Watercolor Paintings
From the artist:
Born in San Francisco, I’ve always appreciated art but didn’t
begin painting until I was in my 30’s. My husband’s work
has afforded our family, my husband and 4 boys, the opportunity to live
in Japan, Spain and England. It was in Europe I began painting 25 years
ago.
I consider myself very fortunate to have
been influenced by various European artists and styles. The majority
of my work offers various elements of impressionistic styles. In addition
to still life works, I enjoy painting landscapes in oil and I recently
extended my efforts in watercolours. Among my earliest works (in oil),
were of the inspirational English countryside.
Although I am self-taught, I attended
numerous workshops while living in England. Through those experiences
and my participation in subsequent painting groups, I’ve learned
a great deal from many very talented artists. One of my most memorable
opportunities was to spend a week painting in the “footsteps of
John Constable at Flatford Mill.” I’ve always admired Constable’s
paintings and I feel as if I shared in some of his inspiration. Also
in England, I was a member and exhibited with the Ely Art Society, the
Bury St Edmunds Art Society and the Phoenix Art Society. During that
time, I was selected to exhibit at the Ely and Bury Cathedrals, respectively.
My husband and I currently live in Montgomery,
where I am a member of the Sac's Society of Arts and Crafts. I am also
a member of the APAA, Alabama Plein Air Artists. Among my most enjoyable
experiences in Montgomery is to paint weekly in Clark Walker's Class.
I also enjoyed discussing art with school children at the Montgomery
Museum of Art, where I volunteered as a docent. In addition to my collection
currently being exhibited at Sac’s in Montgomery, I have participated
in several juried exhibitions such as the Montgomery Art Guild, Bank
Show, the Waterfront Show at South Trust Bank and the MAG show at the
Museum of Fine Arts.
